How to Use Your Nest Thermostat
Nest Thermostat Basics
Nest thermostats don’t have touch screens. To adjust the temperature, simply turn the ring: twist it up for warmth or down for cooling. Press the ring inward to explore additional options. Rotate the ring to highlight a choice, and press again to select.
Temperature Modes on Your Nest Thermostat
Depending on your system and model, your Nest thermostat may offer up to five modes:
Heat, Cool, Heat • Cool, Off, and Eco.
To change modes, press the ring to access the Quick View menu, rotate to your desired mode, and press to confirm.
Maximize Savings and Comfort with Your Nest Thermostat
Looking to reduce energy costs? Here’s how you can make the most of your Nest thermostat:
Optimize Eco Temperatures:
Your thermostat can switch to Eco Temperatures when your home is empty, conserving energy. Setting these temperatures wisely ensures maximum savings without compromising the well-being of pets, plants, or sensitive items.
Make Small Adjustments:
A slight change in temperature—just 1°F or 0.5°C—often goes unnoticed but can lead to significant savings. Adjust your schedule by this small amount and compare your monthly savings through your Home Report.
Save During Vacations:
Planning an extended trip? Switch your thermostat to Off mode to cut down on energy use while you’re away.
Avoid Overheating or Overcooling:
Cranking up the heat or AC won’t warm or cool your home any faster, but it will use more energy. Stick to your desired temperature to prevent unnecessary energy consumption.
Track Your Energy Usage
Curious about your savings? With a Nest Thermostat E, you can view your Energy History by going to Settings and selecting History. This feature provides an easy-to-read chart showing daily heating (orange bar) and cooling (blue bar) activity.
To change modes, press the ring to access the Quick View menu, rotate to your desired mode, and press to confirm.
Energy History Overview:
Scroll through up to 10 days of data to see how your thermostat has performed.
Daily Insights:
Press the ring to dive into specific days for detailed energy use information. If there’s a spike or drop, your thermostat will highlight contributing factors like manual adjustments, automatic Eco mode, your temperature schedule, or even the weather.
Navigation Tips:
Press the ring to return to the main Energy History screen, or hold it down to go back to the temperature display.
